Subj:      WELCOME ABOARD  RTC CADETS AND STAFF

Cadet Training at Naval Station Mayport, FL is one of the premier training sites in the nation. I am sure all will find this training, to be both challenging and rewarding.

We are looking forward to having 125 cadets in 6 Companies at the RTC.

I have an experienced staff on hand this year.  I will have an active duty 2 active duty, NSCC Warrant Officers) as well as a retired Orange County Sheriffs Officer, A former Navy YNC .  The Naval station will be providing with Navy Chiefs as instructors and Corpsman from the clinic here on base.

ALL RECRUIT TRAINING INFORMATION IS POSTED ON WWW.MAYPORTSEACADETS.ORG WEBSITE. PLEASE ACCESS THIS SITE FOR ALL INFORMATION RELATING TO RECRUIT TRAINING.

Cadet Preparation:
All Cadets need to understand that this is a TRAINING evolution.  They are participating, particularly those in Recruit Training/Navy League Basic Orientation, to learn more about being in the NSCC/NLCC program.  Each individual will be asked to do things that are challenging and different, to prepare for this evolution, each person should:

v        Do physical training.  Push-ups, sit-ups, and running are a good way to start.  Physical training is included in the Cadet-training curriculum and PASSING THE PRT  BEFORE SUBMITTING ORDERS  is a requirement (applies to Cadet Recruit Training only)

v        Cadets pack your own Sea bags.  This will help in knowing what has been brought to training.  Each Cadet will be 100% responsible for their own belongings.

v        Break-in footwear.  A lot of drilling will take place during training.  Athletic shoes will be the footwear for much of the training.  However, there will be times dress shoes must be worn; these are more comfortable if they have been broken in.

v        Complete the required BMR chapters (Recruit Training only).

Recruit Cadets Arrival:

Cadets may arrive between the hours of 1100 and 1600 on Saturday 11 JUN 2011. No cadets will be checked in prior to these dates and times unless prior approval from the COTC.  Once RTC cadets are in the check-in area they will not be allowed to leave the area. It is suggested that you ensure that your cadets have eaten prior to arrival at the check-in site or bring a bag lunch. Lunch will not be provided to any cadets on check-in day.

Flight Arrivals:

I need to know ASAP anyone's flight arrangements so that I can have staff present at the airport to meet them.  Please email them the following email addresses:   oldsrocket350@comcast.net with the email subject as follows (CADET FLIGHT ARRANGEMENTS).  That is so I do not delete it for not knowing who it is from. All flights should arrive on the 11th on June between 1000 and 1800. Departing flights may not be scheduled prior to 1300 on 25 Jun 11

Graduation:

ONCE YOU PASS THROUGH THE GATES....FOLLOW THE SIGNS!!!!
Graduation for RTC is on Saturday 25 Jun beginning promptly at 1100, lasting about One to two hours. Parents and CO’s can start picking up Cadets around 1230.

No transportation will be available to take cadets to the airport until after graduation and clean up is completed (departure around 2:00 P.M.). No return flights should be scheduled to depart prior to 1500 (3:00 pm)

Everyone is welcome to attend the graduation ceremony (Highly Recommended).  This will be a proud day for all the cadets as they will be challenged to surpass their own expectations during this training.  It will be very rewarding for them as well.

Uniforms:

The following information pertains to check-in and Check-out only.

·         RTC Cadets: Jumper Dress Whites

Graduation / Departure:

·         RTC Cadets: Jumper Dress Whites

·         Staff: E-7 and above: Summer Whites

·         Staff: E-6 and below: Jumper Dress Whites

Sea Bag Inspection:

 REVIEW YOUR SEABAG LIST
All items must be marked with the Cadet’s last name/first initial and last 4 digits of your SSN # (all underwear and socks look the same after awhile).  A Sea bag inspection will be conducted on the first day of training. Cadets’ Seabags will be inspected immediately upon arrival at their respective barracks.   If any cadets are missing required uniform – clothing items – equipment, the parent or escort will have to purchase those items before the recruit can be checked in. Check your Seabag list and Seabag before you arrive. The required sea bag list is the one from RT Mayport. DO NOT refer to any other sea bag list. … IF YOU HAVE ANY QUESTIONS PLEASE CONTACT YOUR COMMANDING OFFICER OF YOUR UNIT OR REGIONAL DIRECTOR TO ENSURE YOU HAVE THE RIGHT SEABAG LIST.

Adult Escorts & Drivers:
Adult escorts are required to remain in the check-in area until each of their cadets have been found to be medically fit, service records complete including fees, and have completed their sea bag inspection. NO EXCEPTIONS.

Unfortunately, the escort person CANNOT depart until this is accomplished. Last year, several cadets arrived with prior medical or disqualifying conditions and had to be immediately returned home. We also had cadets arriving with one set of uniform clothes, no graduation uniform or dungarees, and some having only the undergarments that they were wearing.

This was supposed to last them for one week. For this reason we are forced to inconvenience the parent or person bringing the recruits to the training to remain until all the recruits under their care are medically, physically and clothing-wise cleared.

Physical Readiness Test:

NSCC Recruits MUST pass the Physical Readiness Test prior to graduation day or they cannot receive their graduation certificate, or credit for Recruit Training. Additionally, recruits who report for RTC who are substantially short of qualifying in accordance with the Physical Readiness Standards will be reviewed by medical personnel for acceptance to participate at RTC. RTC cadets will do PT every day.

Grooming Standards:

ALL MALE CADETS WILL RECEIVE HAIRCUTS … AND ALL FEMALES WILL BE REVIEWED TO MAKE SURE THEY CAN KEEP THEIR HAIR UP TO CURRENT  NAVAL STANDARDS

Check In:
SIGNS WILL BE POSTED ON THE BASE, AS YOU ENTER THROUGH THE GATES. "CHECK IN" WILL BE AT THE BANK OF AMERICA BUILDING......FOLLOW THE SIGNS!

Unit Commanding Officers:
Please ensure that a parent of each cadet receives a copy of this letter.

PERSONAL MONIES
:  NONE NEEDED

OUTSIDE PARTY CONTACT:  To create and maintain the most productive military environment needed for a successful training, it is necessary to isolate trainees from outside influences that may prove distracting.  To this end, it is essential for parents, relatives and friends to understand:

      Cadets will be allowed to call home during In-processing if a parent did not deliver them to the training.

      All cell phones in the possession of ALL Cadets will be turned in.  Cell phone use will only be authorized by

         the COTC.

      Cadets are not allowed to place or receive phone calls.  In case of family emergencies, parents are to contact

unit COs.  The unit CO will then in turn contact the Training Site.  If there is an emergency regarding a Cadet,

a call will be placed to the parents, the unit CO and the Regional Directors.

      Visits from parents, relatives, and friends will be prohibited.

      Visits from home unit staff not attached to the training are not allowed.

      Cadets will be encouraged to send mail to family and friends.

QUESTIONS/CONCERNS:  Your unit Commanding Officer is the FIRST person who may be able to answer questions or concerns.
